NA:TINIXWE MIXINE:WHE'


Situé dans le nord-ouest de la Californie, aux Etats-Unis, plus principalement dans le nord-est du comté de Humboldt, le hupa est parlé le long du cours inférieur de la rivière Trinity dans la réserve de la Vallée Hupa (Hoopa Valley Tribe) créée en 1864. Menacée d'extinction, cette langue amérindienne de la branche de la côte pacifique de la famille athabascane des langues na-dené survit grâce à des tentatives de sauvegarde, notamment la création d'un alphabet d'origine latine et  la publication d'un premier dictionnaire en 1983. Après l'arrivée des Européens dans la région, toutes les variantes dialectales de cette langue disparurent.

Il n'existe actuellement aucune traduction pour désigner les termes en rapport avec le calendrier. D'après mes informations, la plupart des noms désignant les jours de la semaine seraient empruntés à l'anglais alors que les noms des mois seraient traduits par 1er mois, 2ème mois, etc...
