TOHONO O'OTHHAM/PIMA

Le Papago-Pima est une langue amérindienne du groupe pimique de la famille uto-aztèque parlé au sud de l'Etat d'Arizona (Etats-Unis) et au nord de l'Etat de Sonora (Mexique). La langue possède de nombreux dialectes répartis en deux groupes: tohono o'odham ou papago et akimel o'odham ou pima. Influencé par l'espagnol et l'anglais, il existe deux variantes orthographiques pour écrire cette langue dont l'alphabet fut formé au cours de la période qui s'étendit entre 1953 et 1973. Celle appelée "Alvarez-Hale" officielle dans la Nation de Tohono O'odham et celle portant le nom de "Saxton" utilisée dans la Communauté indienne de Gila River (utilisée dans ce lexique) désignent les noms des deux linguistes qui les ont créées.
